It was a very well attended meeting on a sunny evening. Organised by concerned residents in the area, with people there from the communities around the estuary. A very clear explanation of the National Grid project, its implications for residents and where we are from Stewart Bradshaw. Dan Hunt, from the Lake District National Park, gave their view of effects on the park and, importantly, its setting. The Chairman of the National Park Authority thanked everyone and expressed his thoughts on how the community opposition was affecting talks with NAtional Grid. Brief updates from Millom Without, Duddon and Kirkby Ireleth Parish Councils on their opposition to the proposals. A very brief update from Power Without Pylons. Stewart then outlined some simple steps that individuals can take to express their opposition – high on the list is contacting your MP and making a written response during the upcoming public opposition. The meeting was unanimous in asking for a mass meeting with National Grid during the public consultation phase.
